Boys Hall is a beautiful Jacobean manor house, built in the
early 17th century by the Du Bois family. There are many ghost stories associated with the property and the group thought
it would be a good place to hold an overnight investigation, even though it was not quite local. The owners of the hall
very kindly gave us permission to visit in February 2007.
We arrived at 7.00pm and were given a tour around the property. We then
started to set up our equipment and took various temperature and EMF readings. A wine bottle was set up as a trigger
object down in the cellar with a remote camera trained on it. We kept losing reception of the pictures transmitted from
this camera, so Wayne went back down to the cellar to change the camera's position. While he was down there, he
felt a cold blast of air and experienced a sense of butterflies in his stomach.
Throughout
the evening, we kept having problems with some of the equipment. For example - the DVD recorder kept stopping.
This could have just been normal electrical problems. The equipment may have had a bit of a bumpy ride on its journey
from Suffolk to Kent.
At 8.32pm, we went up to the Oriental Room and on entering the room,
both Wayne and Darren experienced a tingly sensation. Wayne got a sense of children.
At
9.15pm, Wayne and Darren entered the kitchen, where Darren heard a brief whimper-like noise.
At
10.27pm, we visited the Stables to hold a vigil. Some scuffling was heard in one corner, but we put this down to a small
animal or bird.
Various other vigils were held in some of the rooms of the main house,
and then at 2.37am, Wayne went back over to the stable block to do a lone vigil. He kept in contact with the rest of
the team in the Hall by two-way radio. Wayne reported that it felt differently in the Stables than it had earlier, but
he put that down to the fact that he was now on his own in there.
At 2.45am,
Wayne heard a couple of tapping noises followed by a bang. Then, the most interesting event of the investigation occured.
An object was thrown across the floor of the Stables. The sound of this was picked up on the video camera. We
had heard about stones being thrown at people in this particular area of the property, which is why we had decided to spend
time there. Wayne could not have accidently kicked anything, as the floor was clear where he was and both his hands
held the investigating equipment.
The rest of the team then went over to the Stable and with the lights
on, we all hunted around for the object that had been thrown. Eventually, we found a very small stone, which when thrown
across the floor, made the same sound as had been heard earlier. We now have this stone sitting on a bookshelf as a
reminder of this unusual event.
Wayne heard a couple more taps in the Stable and then left a locked
off camera in there. He then joined the rest of the team who had been waiting outside.
Please
view our videos on this website. See what you think of the stone throwing incident.
Lots
more vigils were held throughout the night, but nothing more of note was experienced. Many photos were also taken, but
on developing these, only one was of interest. One photograph taken in the Dining Room, shows a small light anomaly
in the top left hand corner.
We really enjoyed our investigation at this beautiful, historic property.
Our thanks go to the owners for letting us visit.
